Get a look at that head, will you? Sweet little baby Wyatt had the most perfectly round, bald baby head I’ve seen in a long while. I couldn’t resist rubbing the top of it a few times. I think it was good luck.

He was just a doll through the entire session and his mom and I had fun chatting about nursing, baby poop, little boys, and all kinds of mom stuff.
This was our mutual favorite from the session:

This adorable antique baby scale is a new addition to my studio, and as soon as Wyatt’s mama arrived she said, “Oh, we have to get some photos of him on there!” Once he was sound asleep we just put set him on it, curled up chubby legs and beautiful round head and all, and it was perfect. She was actually jumping for joy she was so excited — but quietly, so as not to wake the baby. I think this photo would be perfect for baby announcements, or even as a sweet print for the nursery.

I loved this exhausted pic from the end of our session. He was like, “Haven’t I done enough for you people? Did you see that baby scale picture?”

Thank you so much, Wyatt and mama, for coming to visit me. It was so nice to meet you!

Katie came in for her one-year photos and I had so much fun with her, her mom and her three-year-old sister. Katie is the youngest of five children and this was her first professional photo session. I can completely relate to that; I’ve noticed a huge decline in milestone-marking with my third child — I can only imagine adding two more kids to that equation!
But it’s never too late to capture the personality and amazing little moments of your children. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion, either — maybe your son is missing his two front teeth, or your daughter just starting insisting on dressing herself and her style is outrageously awesome (like Katie’s big sister). Those times are fleeting and you’ll treasure images of them just as much.

Katie is the second baby I’ve recently met who wears cloth diapers. I really wanted to try them with my daughter but my husband said he’d have no part of it. Katie’s mom makes her own diapers and said the routine is really not that bad. I’d be interested to hear from any parents out there going this route… and maybe you can help me convince my husband!
Anyway, Katie stripped down to this bright red diaper and I had a vision for this red and white photo series. Adorable. If you are planning a photo session soon and don’t want to go the completely-naked look, you might want to pick up a cloth diaper cover to put over your disposable diaper. They come in a huge range of colors and can really perk up your photos, and look much cuter than disposables with random cartoon characters. Thirsties is a popular brand: http://www.thirstiesbaby.com/covers.htm

And of course I had to give the birthday girl a cupcake. She went at it like a pro.
Thank you so much, Katie and family, for making the trip from Reedsburg! It was a joy to meet and work with you.
Okay, so these are just home pictures of my little lady, but I had to share her newest fashion accessory. I picked up these adorable fuzzy leg warmers at Peapods children’s boutique in Saint Paul this weekend. It’s a lovely store with all kinds of natural children’s items, if you’re from the Twin Cities.
But my very favorite local boutique, Bekah Kate’s in downtown Baraboo, also carries this brand, called Baby Legs.
Wouldn’t these be adorable for a baby photo session? I was thinking for a bigger baby who could sit on his/her own or stand holding on to a chair, with just a onesie, so as to really showcase those chubby baby legs we all love.
People often ask me what their children should wear for their photo sessions, and with the exception of newborns, whom I prefer nekkid, I always emphasize “color, texture, comfort.” Those three things bring out the best in your children and help elevate your photos to art. These baby legwarmers fit the bill perfectly. Doesn’t it make you smile just to look at them?…
