Cassie is a senior at Baraboo High School who’s been dancing since she was four. Traditionally, senior photos of dancers would be in a studio, with the toe shoes placed strategically next to the dancer, or the senior holding a serious dancing pose in a non-dancing environment. You know what I’m talking about. But the advantage of being a modern, on-location photographer is I get to go to where the action is, where the story of the senior is really told. Here’s Cassie leaping in the Just For Kicks studio downtown, where she also teaches dance. Love it.

She’s a natural smiler, but we got a few lovely serious shots as well. Cassie said she’s known at school for her big, sassy earrings.

It was raining throughout most of Cassie’s senior session, but she had such an awesome attitude that we just made it work. I love how in this shot the sun is shining through the rain, so it lights up the flowers and you can actually see the raindrops in the air.

Danielle came up from Mazomanie to have her senior photos taken after searching high and low for a photographer that had the kind of style she was looking for. I was thrilled that she chose me… especially because she was so fun and photogenic. She spotted this heart when we were walking around downtown. Isn’t that cute?

This was my first rooftop senior photo. I love how dramatic the clouds and sky look, and the light on her face.

Her mom and boyfriend came along for the fun, and they were saying something over my shoulder that made her give this fabulous smile.

Isn’t she just gorgeous? She kept saying she wasn’t sure what to do, but really she was a natural in front of the camera.

She said she was hoping to get some photos by a train, but I hadn’t seen one in a while. Then we drove by the train yard, and a fantastic yellow one was waiting for her. It even matched her shirt.

This dress made for such a sweet picture.

Dani, thanks so much for making the trip and for being such a great subject! Can’t wait to show you the rest of the pics soon…

Nathan is a very relaxed and low-key senior from Baraboo High School. He was up for almost anything, so we tried some locations I’d never shot at before. The texture and deep red color of this wall looked so cool.

Nathan is rebuilding his own truck, but unfortunately it wasn’t done in time for our session. Definitely a car and truck afficionado, though. We were walking by Kruse Motor Sales downtown Baraboo and he spotted this sweet Cutlass in the window. The owner was kind enough to let us get a few shots by it.

This garage door actually had an “N” spray painted on it, so I asked him if he’d stand by it. I love how it turned out, with the green on one half of the photo and an industrial look on the other half.

Nathan has played baseball since he was four and currently plays on the American Legion team in Baraboo, so we headed to Mary Rountree Evans Park to get a few shots of him on the field. He’s a third baseman, so he’s standing where third base would normally be. I like the long shadow behind him.

Thanks, Nathan, for the super relaxed session and for being so open to everything. Have a great senior year.
